For a few days we just kept calling Chuy, “puppy” because we couldn’t come up with anything! We knew that we wanted to give him a Spanish name (my husband is Mexican and I’m Portuguese) but wanted a name that people wouldn’t totally butcher.
We are big fans of the Chelsea Lately show and love her assistant, Chuy. It hit me one night to pick Chuy after watching the show because:
1. It’s a Spanish name
2. It’s easy to pronounce
3. It sounds like a fun name for a dog
4. Chuy from Chelsea Lately is a little person and he’s Mexican. My Chuy is a Chihuahua, so he’s also little and Mexican!
That’s where Chuy came from! The rest is history!

Hi Felissa,
My husband is from England and wanted a traditional English name for our dog. We didn’t end up with the ‘Winston’ type Bulldog John wanted. Instead, he and I fell for a fluffy, puppy mill rescue, poodle-mix dog. We named him Henry. Interesting side note; John and I met at Henry’s wine bar in Richmond-Upon-Thames in England.
Our second dog, also a puppy mill rescue, was scared out of her wits, and it has taken more than two years to rehabilitate her. It’s an ongoing process. I chose to name her after a petite, yet confident actress. Hoping my little girl would come out her shell and we would soon see her full range of character, we called her Reese.
A year or so later, a good friend said to me ‘trust you to name your dogs after chocolate’ ha ha. Henry definitely is the nuttiest, and more often than not, his name is preceded with OHHHHHHHH!

This post mentions the meaning of Kayo’s name and how I came up with it but isn’t solely about that. It’s actually a tribute to her for her birthday.
Please feel free to use it, a portion of it and any photos you’d like!
