      Hello everyone,

Because you’re part of Be The Change, I’m reaching out to see if you know of any individual or group that is making a change in the lives of animals. We are looking to interview those stellar individuals and groups and blog about them on the BTC on the BlogPaws site.

Send me your ideas on who is making a difference, who should be interviewed and why!

      Robbi,

I just posted a piece written by one of the volunteers from St. Francis Angels in Texas.  Both St. Francis and Forgotten Dogs of the Fifth Ward do amazing work to help the thousand of stray dogs around Houston.  I wonder if one of them might want to be featured.

      Hi Robbi,

The group I help start is called Heaven Can Wait Animal Society and we’ve been working strong for 14 years in Las Vegas to stop pet overpopulation, rescue homeless cats and dogs and make our city one where no adoptable animal is euthanized.

You can check us out at: http://www.hcws.org.

We’ve now spayed/neutered more than 90,000 animals, run the only non-profit low-cost spay and neuter clinic, placed more than 8,500 pets in new homes, hold monthly TNR clinics for feral cats and tons more.

Our Pups on Parole program was highlighted several years ago by Cesar Millan.

The 5 founding members live, eat and breathe animal rescue.

We would love the opportunity to tell our story!

      Hi Robbi!

Northern California Family Dog Rescue is small, but awesome! They specialize in special needs cases and take lots of dogs despite having a small space in San Francisco. The owner/founder is a wonderful woman who is a breast cancer survivor, and full time corporate manager.

She, along with many others, dedicate a ton of time to the pets of Northern California. http://www.norcalfamilydogrescue.org/

I hope to work with them one day, at this point my schedule is too full, but they deserve any recoginition I can give. Please let me know if you have any questions or need more info. Thanks!

I personally have fostered over 350 cats and kittens.. and I’d be happy to be interviewed if you are interested..

      Hi Connie,

I just had to tell you how impressed I am that you have fostered so many cats and kittens.  It’s not an easy job.  You are truly saving lives.

      Hi Robbi,

I would love the opportunity to tell you about a wonderful new company called Pet Rescue Rx.  We are an online pharmacy who deliver prescription and OTC medications directly to your door at competitive prices. But here is how we are different.

We donate 100% of our NET Profits to Shelters and Rescue Centres. After you purchase from us online you are directed to a page that gives you the opportunity to choose which shelter you want to contribute to!  We started in June, 2013 and have donated $5000.00 to shelters already.. but we need to keep growing so that we can continue to help these shelters in need.

Please read about us and visit our website.  Dr. Buckley would be happy to provide an interview and any other information you would like to share with the community.

      Hi Robbi,

The National Mill Dog Rescue in the United States is doing some awesome work rescuing dogs from puppy mills. They have been posting on face book all the beautiful dogs they have been rescuing. In Ontario Canada there is also a group called People Against Puppy Mills In Ontario. I am sure there are more groups out there doing some amazing work. I would like to see more attention paid to these puppy mills. As a former Vet Tech I have to say I am guilty of never realizing the horrendous conditions these dogs must endure.

      Thanks

Hi, Robbi. I’d like to suggest coverage on Canine Epilepsy Awareness. I am the proud parent of five Siberian Huskies, and one is an Epi-dog, a Siberian Husky named Gibson who was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy when he turned three. He inspired me to share our experiences and hopefully help others. As a result, I authored an illustrated children’s book What’s Wrong With Gibson? Learning About K-9 Epilepsy to help educate and remove the fear if they have a dog who goes into seizures. There are also some real tips a child could do to help. I am currently working on a new book, EPIc Dog Tales: Heartfelt Stories About Amazing Dogs Living & Loving Life With Canine Epilepsy that is a collection of stories from Epi-dog parents worldwide that is tentatively scheduled for publication in March. Both books have a percentage of proceeds being donated to the Canine Epilepsy Resources “Emma’s Fund” through the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. I have written many articles on the awareness in my FiveSibes™ blog, on FiveSibes Facebook page and in magazine articles for Ruff Drafts and American Pet Magazine, as well as on my “The Sibe Vibe” Dog Works Radio show. I am also a Purple Day Ambassador for Epilepsy and have launched a “Live Gib Strong K-9 Epilepsy Awareness” campaign to help educate and inform folks that dogs with seizure disorders and Canine Epilepsy can – and do – live happy, full lives for however long we are blessed to have them. Once upon a time the only recommendation for a dog with epilepsy was euthanization. That is so not the case today. There are many resources and much information available and it is my goal to help share those so that these amazing dogs will have happy homes and not be surrendered to shelters, euthanized, or passed over for adoption.

Hi Jodi, I love the mission of your organization; this is the article I wrote about PRx http://pawsitivelytexas.com/pets-before-profit-new-breed-pharmacy/ I really hope you reach your goal because the animal rescues and shelters need funding to care for the pets!

I know that photographers don’t necessarily change the lives of animals, but we have some amazing animal photographers in our area that take BEAUTIFUL photos of shelter animals for free.  Potential adopters see the great pictures and are more inclined to adopt that animal.  It’s pretty amazing what a good photographer can do for dogs that don’t photograph well – specifically, pitbulls or black dogs and cats.  Instead of capturing a sad-looking shelter dog, they manage to get a photo of the dog’s best side, and it really does suck people in.

It would be neat to change things up a bit and feature a pet photographer on a blog!

      Hi Robbi,
I don’t know if you’re still looking….but I am a pet photographer and volunteer photographing for several local rescues that are amazing!  My favorite though, is Circle F Horse Rescue Society – I just finished photographing my 20th horse for them 🙂 !  Circle F has been helping horses since 1997 and they do an incredible job helping them.  You can check out their website and learn more about them at:  http://www.circlef.ca  You can also see some of the photos i’ve taken there and more about them on my website – http://www.pawsandtailspetphotography.com/#!circle-f-horse-rescue-society/c1tgz and you can also check out some of my many posts about them and the other rescues I work with on my blog – http://pawsandtailsblog.wordpress.com/  I hope this helps 🙂

Awe thank you chelsea for your post – as a pet photographer myself that volunteers photographing rescue animals (equine, canine & feline) for local rescues, that post means a lot to hear <3 It seems like such a small thing to do to help but it’s so nice to know it DOES help make a difference <3 🙂

      Hi Robbi,

based on my research for today’s BlogTheChange post (http://destinysdogblog.com/wtp-what-the-paw-btc4a-quebec/), I have to say that I’m most impressed by the efforts of the Montreal SPCA as well as those of the Ian Somerhalder Foundation (more than just a pretty face, it turns out!). I have links to both up in my post if you’d like to check them out or contact! 🙂

      thanks and Happy Tuesday 🙂

Me 🙂   I’m not a narcissist (allegedly)  but as an individual rescuer in Los Angeles, I am a glutton for punishment.  I started as a foster and now do it all myself. I currently have 12 rescue dogs – 8 of which I’m fostering.  And no, I’m not a hoarder. In fact, I’m probably one of the saner ones – even though I say so myself!  I write about some of my rescue stuff – hopefully with a sense of humour  – on my blog  http://roadogsandrescue.wordpress.com/   Anyway, I can give you an independent rescuer’s POV if you’re interested.

Please note my post in Member News/Announcements.  Through my YappeeHour Meetup group, we’ve since additionally reached out to the Phoenix Arizona area to assess needs for pet resuscitation equipment.

      http://community.blogpaws.com/group/member-news-and-announcements/forum/topics/pet-resuscitation-kits-for-first-responders

These pet resuscitation kits are available for donation at a cost of $100 per kit

We fully expect that this equipment will make a change / save a life of animals.  If at least one life is saved, it will have been worth the effort.

Robbi, I am catching up and found your appeal. I can point you at a sterling little rescue I am supporting, and posted about on my blog.  The blog post is here (not its not to make everyone go and look) it’s simply the best way for me to give you an introduction to Place for Cats, a small, committed rescue and foster network who make an impact on the #NYC ACC as much as they can and make a massive difference.

Why am I saying they made a difference? They rescued Leo, a cat on the Kill List, and I had pledged to his rescue. because of this I found out more about how one small rescue saves lives, fosters kittens and changes the lives of rescues.

Hi Robbi, here are some of the nation’s leading no kill authorities who have not only transformed their own community to a save rate in excess of 90%, but help others do the same – I would love for BlogPaws and BTC to get to know these amazing people and their teams to share the message of how more lives can be saved! These are common sense programs that are proven to save lives in shelters big and small, metro and rural, across the U.S.

Dr. Ellen Jefferson – she’s simply one of the most brilliant and inspiring animal welfare leaders today. She is instrumental in Austin, TX not only becoming the nation’s largest no kill city in the U.S., but she has implemented some of the most innovative life-saving programs (baby bottle program, maternity ward, play groups, & more) that save the animals many shelters kill immediately. You can see an 11 minute video presentation in this link, filmed on location at Austin Pets Alive!: How Austin Texas Became a No Kill City! (video) | Pet Adoption & Animal Rescue Pawsitively Texas (It’s low budget, but the message is powerful!). Ellen also founded Emancipet, which is a low cost spay/neuter clinic in Austin. She’s a season conference speaker and very inspiring. Ellen has spoken at both the 2012 and 2013 workshops I’ve hosted and is very popular (and have two workshop videos online if you’d like to see them).

Sgt Karl Bailey – a 22 year police veteran when he was placed in charge of his city’s shelter; he had no experience, but agreed to take responsibility for the shelter if the City allowed him 1) dismantle the gas chamber used to kill the animals and 2) become a no kill shelter. You can see his story here: http://pawsitivelytexas.com/how-seagoville-animal-shelter-became-no-kil/

Cheryl Schneider – a career EMT veteran who asked to manage the shelter so she could save the animals too. She too is a brilliant leader finding creative solutions to save lives; you can see a short video here of the shelter programs and people: http://pawsitivelytexas.com/the-lifesaving-programs-of-a-no-kill-open-admission-shelter/ AND a workshop video here of how to maintain no kill status during seasons of high intake and budget cuts: http://pawsitivelytexas.com/animal-shelter-crisis-management/

These folks are true animal heroes and I hope you will share their stories; feel free to share their video stories.

      Hi Robbi,

In November I wrote an article about a woman in far northern Scotland who has been recognized by the queen of England for her work in re-homing over 5,000 Labradors. Carolyne Poulton, BEM has been recognized by our organization as one of the Heroines of canines.

Here’s the link to the story: http://centerforcaninebehaviorstudies.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Carolyne-L.-Poulton-Guardian-Angel-to-5000-Labs.pdf

Hi! I’m not sure if you are still looking for ideas or people, but our company (One Dog Organic Bakery) started a new program: #BuyABagGiveABag. Each month we feature a different rescue or shelter and for every bag of our organic dog treats purchased, we donate a bag to that Organization. So far we have donated over 50 bags in one month!

You can learn more here: K9 Outreach Program and see our current month’s Organizationhere

      Thank you!
