Hello!  I was wondering if someone could tell me where to get free legal music for YouTube videos.  I don’t want to use something that I’m not allowed, but some of the free sites look a bit iffy.  Thanks for any help or links.  Melissa

You can find music on the Creative Commons

Most musicians will not allow their music to be used for commercial purposes so if you are attempting to make money with your videos, you’ll want to filter for folks who allow commercial use. And don’t forget to credit them in the video.

That’s a great idea Pamela. You can also use the free music on YouTube. Click on the “creation tools” tab on the left side of your channel page and the first option that pops up is all the free music.

Thank you both so much!  The two sample songs on my movie maker are horrid! BOL!!  I am only using music for dog video and sadly, not to make money!  Hahaha!!  I am very new to YouTube so that info is indeed helpful!

      Hey All,

Another great resource for royalty free music is Kevin MacLeod’s diverse collection at http://incompetech.com/music/

He provides all his listed work for free with a Creative Commons “By Attribution” license. His FAQ page explains that he believes the copyright system is broken and wants to help out folks who can’t afford to clear rights for their film/video works (http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/faq.html – scroll down to his Philosophy section). And, I’m sure, it’s also one of his ways of marketing his original music composing services (http://incompetech.com/music/services.html).

I think his collection is a treasure for the online community and should be used and credited as much as possible!
