@Amy - you would think that an experienced cat lover (me) would know how to come up with a solution to this "challenge" other than needling the "in house" cat expert.  lol

@Kathy, I do have that in my lineup to answer in an Ask Amy in the future! But the short answer is...cuz he can! *s* The taste, the motion, the sound all reward him in some way--plus whatever you do in reaction may reward with attention.
