At this time, I write for two other blogs besides my own. I'm thinking about resigning my position of writing for a local blog, because the owner isn't promoting the blog (no time) and I'd rather put that energy back in content marketing for Keep the Tail Wagging.
I also write for TVGoodness about the program Nashville. I'm going to continue writing for them, but I think I'll resign once the season is over, but I haven't decided yet, because this one is fun.
I love writing for others, but I would like for that writing to benefit Keep the Tail Wagging.
The local blog is called Girl Power Hour - when I look at my analytics, nothing is coming to Keep the Tail Wagging so why bother? I do share the posts, but I can't do it alone.
Do you think resigning is a good move?
Thanks!
PS both of these are unpaid.

Permalink Reply by Colby Morita on February 6, 2013 at 2:55pm I agree with you that resigning is the correct move. Especially if your main goal is to help benefit Keep the Tail Wagging. As you mentioned you could put the energy back into content marketing for Keep the Tail Wagging. You could focus your extra time finding guest posts with other pet bloggers or even find another blog that you enjoy writing for that will benefit KTTW.
By the way, I don't know where you get it all done. Please send me some tips on how to manage time :)

I'm in the Seattle area and am familiar with Girl Power Hour, worked with them on a potential marketing partnership with something else I was involved with, and to be honest I wasn't aware they had a blog. So I'm thinking they definitely aren't marketing their blog! If your gut feeling is saying there isn't much "in it" for you anymore, it's probably time to move on.
I ended up leaving two different unpaid gigs last year for basically the same reason - I felt it was sort of one sided (their side, not mine). My personal feeling is that giving your time falls into either volunteerism or a learning opportunity. Volunteerism would be working with a non-profit that can't afford to pay you, but has an awesome cause you believe in with your whole heart. I've entered non-paying gigs thinking I was in for a learning experience (which is the reason I'd agreed to participate) and it has turned out there isn't really anything they can offer me in exchange for the hours I offer them. Those sorts of situations end up not feeling right to me, and sounds sort of like your situation.
Just my 2 cents!
Stefanie

Thanks, Colby. It's always nice to get a second opinion. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed that I start purging and I didn't want this to be one of those times. It's helpful to work out the logic with others who "get it."
I have no idea how I get it all done. I'm crazy and super drive. I have fantasies of the life I'll have once KTTW starts paying the bills. And one of those involved adopting a deaf dog and a senior dog to add to our family.

Permalink Reply by Beagle Daily on February 6, 2013 at 6:07pm You should totally resign. Your talented writer and your time is valuable. You can pursue opportunities that fit with your time and professional writing expertise.
Permalink Reply by Colby Morita on February 6, 2013 at 6:38pm I think you must have discovered the 25th hour in your day...or maybe you work while you sleep :)
Adopting a deaf dog and a senior dog sounds wonderful. I'm hoping for the same day when my blog covers all the bills so I can free up my time and train more service dogs to help autistic children and people with disabilities.
