I'm super worried because I've never boarded JR and Baby Pom before. More so for JR b/c she's been with us since she was a tiny tiny one and she's more shy/scared around strangers. I took them to the boarding place before to try to get them accustomed to it before but do you have any tips for this worried mama about what I can do to make them feel more at home. I know I'm going to be worrying anyways but I'd like them to be less stressed. Dropping them off tmrw for 3 days. Eek!
They're peepee pad trained.
I'm packing this for them so far:
1) 2 beds
2) treats/food
3) toys
4) a towel which hopefully by now has my scent on it
5) pee pee pads -Do you normally pack these for the boarding place? Or would they supply it? They're supposed to walk them 4x a day but b/c they're already trained, I figured it wouldn't hurt.
Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm still scrambling around trying to pack my own bags. Thanks!

Check them out on google (name of company + complaints); YELP; with your Vet; ask for some clients you can call for references.
If they eat a special diet then take their food. Most boarding situations provide food. Take any medicines they use. Pee pads...... hummm I don't know..... they are usually very busy and have small staffs and I wouldn't personally take any but I would certainly ask them. They'll be fine. Good luck!

Be sure to get their kennel cough shots.

Permalink Reply by Carol Bryant on May 7, 2012 at 10:57am I have been traveling with dogs for over 18 years and though I've never boarded my dog, I definitely recommend:
* Get referrals
* Find out if you can check on them via web cam
* Is there going to be a vet on or vet tech on staff/what do they if an emergency?
* Will they ever be left alone or will staff be there 24/7?
* I know folks who have boarded their dogs and they did a trial run by allowing them to stay one night and see how it goes.
I hope that helps and psyched to meet you at BlogPaws --- my 4th one! Woof!
Permalink Reply by Cinny@WhirlwindofSurprises on May 7, 2012 at 11:21am Thanks for the help! I checked on Yelp and it seems like they're ok. They'll be left alone at night, locked in due to NYC laws. During the day, they'll be behind the counter with the staff b/c they're small. Supposed to get 4 walks a day. They took my vet's info which is kind of nearby (same neighborhood). I'm not sure if I can webcam but I know they had skype so that's a really good idea for me to ask them.
LOL, I really want to go to BlogPaws. :( But don't know if I can, I made a media kit but haven't had any time to pitch to companies at all. Lucky you! Its something I definitely want to go to.

Sounds like your doggies will be in good hands at the boarding place....
Permalink Reply by Carol Bryant on May 11, 2012 at 12:48pm I also might want to show up there unannounced and see how things are going when they don't know you are coming. ;)

Permalink Reply by Cinny@WhirlwindofSurprises on May 21, 2012 at 11:31am I just wanted to also thank all of you for your advice. I came back and they were so excited to see me. But the important thing is that I think they did fine there. There was not a hair missing on them. JR also because a little more dog-friendly. A tad more sociable than before so I think it might actually have helped her shyness a bit.
