And is he/she belted in, free to roam, in a kennel.... curious to know. My boy is belted in with a dog harness-type seatbelt.

Roxy sits on the center console in the truck. She has a fuzzy little bed that's hers. She can see out the window or curl up and nap. Sometimes if it's hot from the sun she will move to the back seat. She also likes my lap.

Torrey, since she is bigger, and the new comer, sits on the back seat. She curls up and sleeps whenever we go anywhere. Tomorrow is her first long trip. We will be on the road for about 6 hours. Roxy is used to this, we'll see how the pup does.

Dexter is belted in. I used to let him roam free until a friend was in an accident and the emergency personnel told her that having her dogs restrained probably saved their lives.
I drive a Subaru Forester.  I fold down the back seat and put two comforters down.  Both dogs sleep back there while I'm driving long distances.  Hobie will sometimes come up to the front seat and sit in the passenger side for a few minutes at a time.  They do have free roaming of the car.  With my old Subaru, I had a doggie barrier in the "way back" and Hector was back there and Hobie in the back seat.  Therefore, they were separated.  I like them being able to lie down on our long drives to Cape Cod and back (3 hours each direction).
When we had three dogs we traveled in our extended cab (4 full door) pick-up.  Two dogs in back and one in front with us (in the center and on my lap.)

Here is a photo of Hector in the back of the Forester.  I tried to get a shot of both dogs but I couldn't get my iPhone at a good angle ... Hobie is lying next to Hector, on the passenger side.  There is plenty of room for both of them to stretch out, and sometimes one will lie horizontal in the back near the door (I always lock the doors when traveling).  We went to Cape Cod today ( 3 hours drive).  When we get to the house, I take the two comforters out and they double as "dog beds" in the living room until we're ready to leave (tomorrow!).  Both dogs weigh 85 pounds, and Hector is taller than me when he stands on his hind legs, so the Subaru is very accommodating for larger dogs.  Someone here said I should be on the Subaru commercials -- I've always said I would love to be on their commercial!  LOL  OOPS, pic came out sideways!!  I'll try to flip and re-post sorry.
