How do you do it?
How do you do it?
I get asked this question all the time. Why? Because right now I have 5 little dogs sitting at my feet. Okay so they are not at my feet, one is right next to me, one is in her little house on the other side of the room, two are on the floor, and the other has decided to make camp on the loveseat across from me. Ohh, then there are the two cats somewhere inside the house, and the other 3 "big" dogs outside.
But to me it is very simple. They are my children and…

Cats sleeping on my bed!
Over the weekend my husband was out of town, so it was just me and the cats. We had a great time on Friday night. I had work to do and the cats spent the evening doing what they love to do:
Then it was time for bed. I decided to sleep in our guest room because the cats are not allowed in our bedroom (my husband is allergic and needs to have a few cat-free rooms in our home). This was going to be a night to remember.
The cats kept me up all night. I hated it and…

“ComPETability: Solving Behavior Problems In Your Multi-Cat Household”, by Amy Shojai
“ComPETability: Solving Behavior Problems In Your Multi-Cat Household”, by Amy Shojai, is part of a series to help those who have multi-pet households. It was published by FurryMuse Publications in 2012. As the title suggests, this book is a resource for those who have more than one cat. As Ms. Shojai is a pet behaviorist, she is more than qualified in this area. Years ago she began her crusade for animals by becoming a veterinary technician. Almost naturally, she became a pet writer.…

Many of us take our best pals to a variety of classes such as obedience, good manners or how to walk on a leash. Our dogs participate in activities including agility, rally and fly ball. They become service dogs, working dogs and audiences for young readers.
We teach our dogs to sit, weave and retrieve. We reward them for listening attentively and following directions.…

Dog Adventure
I am really looking forward to going to BlogPaws 2013, my very first "dog in tow" conference adventure. I've been to conferences before, but never with my dog!
I am also a puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence and Melba, my service pup in training, will be with me. This will be a great experience for her to practice very long sits and downs while ignoring distractions. Looking forward to meeting new friends and learning a lot!

On Puppies, Pet Stores and Behaviour Problems
If you buy a puppy from a pet store, could you be getting more than you bargained for? It has long been thought that puppies from pet shops might have behavioural problems. A new study by Franklin D. McMillan et al investigates this by comparing puppies from pet stores to those from non-commercial breeders...

Does Your Cat Need a Vacation?
When planning a vacation or a weekend away do you plan your cat’s vacation as well? Since cats like consistency of routine and the familiarity of their own home they do not make good travel partners. However, although seemingly independent, leaving them alone for long periods of time is not advisable since their curiosity can get them into trouble or an emergency situation in the home could become a dangerous situation.

Justice and Jool: Two Dobermans in Brooklyn Need a Home!
Two Dobermans in brooklyn received an unfortunate blow two months ago; their owner passed away without leaving family behind, or having made provisions for the dogs. Justice is 14 and Jool is 8, and they are very much attached to one another. The dogs are currently safe, and Illinois Doberman Rescue will be able to take them on if no home in or near Brooklyn can be found, but as might be imagined, they don't want to stress them more with undue travel.…
