Select a Host

Topic Progress:

In order to have a blog, you need somewhere to host all of the content you create so that readers can access it. A blog is your home. Your domain name is the address. A host is the space you are renting to house that home.

A blog host is the company that provides the space on their servers to store your blog. This is what allows the world to be able to see everything you post. Without a host, nobody will see your blog.

Hosting is paid monthly and can be quite affordable for those just starting out. Remember there are other free blogging platforms that do not require a hosting fee. However, as we’ve mentioned before we recommend starting with a self-hosted site if you are serious about turning your passion of pets into profits!

When selecting a host, keep these tips in mind:

  • How are the reviews about this host?
  • Do they offer support with their hosting package?

There are a lot of options for hosting. For anyone just starting out, you can find hosting for less than $10/month. As time goes on and you grow, you may need to upgrade your hosting provider.  However, you don’t need to worry about that right now.

Here are some host companies we recommend for new pet bloggers:

Once you have selected a host, you’ll need to connect your domain name (if you purchased them from different sites) to the host nameservers. The instructions for this vary for each host and domain broker. Be sure to contact your host or search their help section for instructions. We will always refer you directly to the host for the most up to date instructions and support.

I would not go with cheap. Never ever go with CHEAP!

We have a Host recommended to us called Rochen.com as they were valued by a very trusted colleague. We have, after four years, not had any reason to leave. With service that is responsive at the highest level (I never wait more than 5/10 minutes for a response) and staff willing to explain the how’s and why’s things happenI really like them. They are also a big help transferring with this https thing 😉

So do your field work, weight up what other people tell you, this will help YOU make up your own mind because you will have gathered a lot of knowledge as you researched different hosts.
