What is Your Niche?

Topic Progress:

Niche refers to a specific topic, subject or category. Your niche should be directly tied to what you want to blog about and the audience that you want to attract. Blogging about pets is a niche all on its own but it’s a big one. In order to stand out in such a big space, it’s important to “niche down” into what makes you unique. The more specific your blog is the more memorable you will be. Niche blogs have the opportunity to bring in lots more traffic versus a more broad topic.

denoting or relating to products, services, or interests that appeal to a small, specialized section of the population.

To help determine your niche, answer the following questions:

  • Can I monetize my niche?
  • Would I ever get sick of talking about this topic?
  • Is there a need for this niche?
  • What can I offer to this discussion of this topic?

There are many different niches you can take within the pet industry. Here are a few examples:

  • Rescue
  • Breed specific tips and advice
  • Pet health and wellness
  • Pet Fashion
  • Lifestyle with pets

Here are a few examples of influencers in our network that do a great job with owning a specific niche.

  1. Stephanie

My focus and passion is with big dogs. I never even considered picking just one breed because I feel like there are so many people out there with large and giant mixed breeds that would be left out. I feel like Big Dog Mom serves a very specific but inclusive audience of big dog lovers.

  2. Amber

My main focus throughout the years, and what I have applied my education to, is canine behavior. I mainly assist dogs who have been neglected or abused in their past ‘life’ and are now in an adoptive home. Their owners are often hurt and frustrated as they handle their behavioral problems and try to adjust them to ‘normal’ life.

  3. Gail

My blog is frugal family. A pet is part of the family. I want to share products or companies that are worth the month for a family so they don’t waste money. We buy products for our kids and why not toys for our dogs as well.

  4. Rachel

When I first started blogging, I struggled finding my niche. I decided to really niche down in January of this year and have only seen positive feedback since! I’m so happy I did it. I am a dog/lifestyle blog I’d say. I do interviews with dog related companies, tips, and hopefully soon DIY and recipes!

  5. Kerry & Valentine

My niche is a cat lifestyle website/blog. It is voiced by Valentine the black Persian cat. He talks about his interests on topics including health, life, love, happiness, and adventure. He gives monthly product reviews, occasionally interviews friends, writes stories and poetry, gives design and decorating tips, and shares pictures of himself and of members of his staff. We’ve found success with his blog as it has won a BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose award in 2017 and in 2018, we get repeat commenters on his posts, and continue to attract to new visitors.
